History of Cocoa Beach Florida

Attention Cocoa Beach lovers! Did you know that this beautiful coastal city has a rich and fascinating history?

Records from the city of Cocoa Beach show that the first colony was founded by a family of freed slaves, not the Ais Native Americans who had previously lived there. According to these records, a hurricane drove away the original settlers.

The region wasn't repopulated until 1888, and it wasn't until well-known lawyer Gus Edwards took an interest in it in the 1920s that it was properly developed.

The developments led to an influx of settlers. The first hotel, the Cocoa Beach Inn, was built in 1925 and is still standing today. By then, the population hard risen to 1,800— a far cry from today's 11,000! The Cocoa Beach Inn is now a private residence. While it is not open to the public, you can still see the historic building and appreciate its unique architectural style.

But what really put Cocoa Beach on the map was the space program. In the 1960s, NASA built the Kennedy Space Center just a few miles north of Cocoa Beach, attracting thousands of employees and visitors to the area. Many of the first astronauts also called Cocoa Beach home.

Today, Cocoa Beach is a vibrant and thriving community with a perfect mix of beachy charm and modern amenities. Come visit Cocoa Beach, and take advantage of our convenient Orange Kik e-scooters to experience the rich history and natural beauty of this unique city for yourself!
